Project Overview:

The Curator is a competitive board game in which players take on the role of museum directors working to assemble the most prestigious collection. Inspired by my interest in visiting museums and exploring diverse forms of art, the game centers on the question of what truly gives an artwork value. Players compete to build the highest-scoring collection using artwork cards, with the winner proving themselves as the most accomplished curator. Throughout the game, players must use their judgment to separate exceptional pieces from more ordinary ones. At its core, the experience encourages players to reflect on their own ideas of what makes a piece worthy of display.

Approach & Outcome:

The game developed through multiple rounds of playtesting, which revealed opportunities to simplify and strengthen its core mechanics. I refined the board layout and removed features that added unnecessary complexity, resulting in a more intuitive and engaging experience. User experience was a major focus throughout this process, as feedback from players directly influenced design decisions and improvements.

Collaboration also played a key role in shaping the final product. Working closely with play-testers allowed me to better understand how different users interacted with the game, ensuring it remained accessible while still offering meaningful strategic depth. This user-centered approach ultimately led to a cleaner and more enjoyable gameplay experience.
